Cristof’s on McGregor has been open since 2011. If you drive on McGregor and you really can’t miss this lovely restaurant as it is a bright yellow home with a wrap around porch. There is outdoor seat on the porch as well as on the patio out front. For those new to our area owner Cristof Danzi previously owned the McGregor Café for many years.
On the evening we visited, we opted to eat outside on the patio. They were moderately busy for a Friday evening. We had a tad bit of a wait as they only one host on duty and he had gotten tied up seating a larger group outside.
Overall the service was excellent. Our orders were taken in a timely manner. We were checked on frequently but never intrusive. My dining partner mentioned how they had read a server should visit a table at least 8 times. Our server did that and a few more.
We started with some bruschetta ($12.95) Toasted sourdough bread topped with vine ripe tomatoes marinated in garlic, fresh herbs & olive oil and finished with melted mozzarella cheese. It was good but we found that the melted mozzarella overpowered the tomatoes/garlic/herbs/olive oil flavors.
For entrees we chose the Braised Pork Shank ($22.95 ) with a red wine reduction and served with mashed potatoes and asparagus ( opted for broccoli) and the Steak Salad ($14.95) sliced NY strip, fresh baby spinach, arugula and cherry tomatoes with bacon and honey mustard. The pork literally fell off the bone it was so tender. The portion is large so be prepared to take some home. My dining partner felt her steak salad was also very good but that while her steak was cooked perfectly, it had some gristle in it. We finished our meal with coffee and Homemade Key Lime Pie ($4.50). This is perhaps the best you will find in Fort Myers.
If you decide to dine outdoors on the front patio you do need to bear in mind that there is traffic noise to contend with. We did not find this to be a distraction, except for those pesky motorcycles. We did notice that a few did find the traffic noise a distraction. The other thing we noticed is the distance the servers must walk to brings the drinks and meals. They must walk from the back of the restaurant all the way around to the front. So, keep that in mind. If you have never been inside Cristof’s on McGregor, you will see quaint rooms to dine in as well as a large bar area.
Over the years, Fort Myers dining options have really grown and now there are so many choices. If you have not been to Cristof’s on McGregor you will want to add them to your list as they are a great, locally owned option with excellent food and service.
Overall Rating: Pretty Awesome
