The Discriminating Diner traveled north and happened upon the Lighthouse Grill at Stump Pass in Englewood.  Well, we did not just happen upon it as it is off the beaten path. However, it is on the water and we wanted sunset dining experience that we could just enjoy in a relaxed and causal atmosphere.

The Lighthouse Grill is an outdoor tiki bar with plenty of seating to view the water and sunset. They even have a deck where you can sit, relax, enjoy an adult beverage and view the spectacular sunsets. This is perhaps one of the best things about the Lighthouse Grill. There is nothing fancy about this restaurant. Drinks are served in plastic cups, due to it being an outside bar we presumed.  On the weekends they have live entertainment. This would be a fun place to enjoy live music and adult beverages and the atmosphere is well suited for that.

The hostesses were adequate but can’t say they were warm and friendly. As they are the first person a guest meets, they should at least smile and greet you warmly. Our server though was very warm and friendly and made the experience fun.

The menu is large with plenty of options. They also have a full bar. My dining companion chose a shot of Fireball as they did not have Rum Chata. The server did ask if she wanted it chilled which is unusual but a great way to serve it.

We settled on wings $10.95 and a burger/fries $11.95 which we shared. The burger was supposed to be a ½ pound angus burger. The food was average and nothing to write home about. The wings did have a decent amount of meat on them and were cooked properly. Sometimes wings can be over cooked and dry but these were not. The burger was dry though, but it was cooked medium well. The fries were good. Overall, there was nothing special about the food. Given their location if the food was just a notch better it would really add to the experience. It is however a good place to enjoy an adult beverage and watch the world go by or enjoy live music.
