flippers on the bay

If you reside on Fort Myers Beach, chances are you have heard of Flippers on the Bay. They are located at the Lovers Key Resort, but it is open to public. It is an outdoor restaurant so the views of the back bay waters of Estero Bay are just stunning. They were name best waterfront dining on Fort Myers beach and once you go there you will see why. They are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The views are not the only thing that makes the restaurant memorable. The food and service are both excellent. We considered this a hidden gem because as we were told most people outside of the beach area do not know about them. Despite that, they were doing a brisk business for a summer evening.

Our server was Chloe and she made our evening delightful. She was very knowledgeable about the menu. I even asked for an item they had on their website menu but was not on the menu we were given, and she knew that they did have this item without having to check. May seem like a small detail but not for the caliber of restaurant Flippers on the Bay is.

For appetizers we had New England Clam Chowder ($8) and 7 Buffalo Wings ($12).  The chowder was just outstanding. oh the flavors!!! The wings however, not so much. They were just kind of blah and lacked the buffalo flavors.

The entrees as you can see had outstanding presentation. The flavors matched as well. They certainly had the wow factors here. We had the Cruz’s Paella $26 – Shrimp, black cold water mussels, chicken breast, chorizo, saffron jasmine rice, Crab Cakes $34 – Jasmine rice, saffron lime aioli, apple pomegranate salad, Asian Inspired Atlantic Salmon $26 – Caramelized Mae Ploy chili sauce, chive, steamed jasmine rice, and the Coconut Shrimp $25 – Hand battered, baby carrot, asparagus, rice pilaf,  mango coulis minus the asparagus. We all just can not say enough about how excellent the food was. Everything was fresh, the muscles in the Paella were just perfect. The Crab Cakes were huge and more crab than anything else. The shrimp and salmon were perfectly cook. The saffron lime aioli completed the crab cakes well as did the Caramelized Mae Ploy chili sauce with the salmon. These meals coupled with a nice evening breeze made for a perfect evening.

We just had to try their desserts. Crème Brule, Chocolate Souffle and Key Lime Pie with a round of coffees really ended this splendid meal well. These desserts were just as wonderful as our meals. The souffle was more like a lava cake but it was just delicious and not overly rich. The Crème Brule melted in your mouth and the key lime pie was excellent.

If you are looking for truly a special evening than you will want to try Flippers on the Bay. I am told that during season, they have long waits. Trying them for breakfast or lunch might be an option then.
